Introduction
1993
saw a youthful Darren Clarke snare his maiden
European Tour win in the Dunhill Open at Royal
Zoute. The championship links, on the country’s North
Sea shores, is emblematic of a nation that’s perhaps
renowned for its chocolate and beer as opposed to its
golf, but overlooking Belgium is a mistake.
Not only is this alluring land easy to get to (we
recommend you hop a Eurotunnel from Folkestone), it is
also packed with golfing delights of surprising number
and quality. Bases around Bruges, Brussels and Waterloo
are popular, with plenty to offer away from the course,
too.

“
I’ve got brilliant memories
of winning my first European
Tour event here back in 1993,
including the celebrations!
Zoute is a Colt design which, in
my book, makes it one to play
without question”
